Fashion Street is a popular landmark. This area, which is lined by dozens of small stalls that sell export surplus garments, is a favourite with the younger crowd. Bargaining here is advised because they hike the prices anyway. Warden Road and Bhulabhai Desai Road boasts some of the ciy's best shoe shops and boutiques that stock foreign brands.

You can find everything from a pin to a diamond necklace in Dadar (near plaza theatre). For fresh vegetables, flowers and aromatic spices visit Matunga. Exquisite south Indian zari sarees and jewellery can be purchased from Mahalaxmi Saree centre at Station Road, Matunga (East). Dadar, which is centrally located is a very busy Shopping area. Extremely popular with the middle class, you can get anything from a tea strainer to beautiful wedding sarees here. Saree and readymade garment shops dot the whole area. The best time to visit this place is during the festival season. The air is filled with the incredible colours and intoxicating fragrance of roses,jasmine and lillies, as Dadar is host to Mumbai's biggest flower market also.

As far as shopping in the central suburbs is concerned there is not much choice left for the customer, because most of the suburban areas are dominated by slums and one cannot expect good shops or shopping complexes in such localities. However, there are some good shops in Ghatkopar, Mulund and Thane. But if one is looking for good quality at bargain prices, then a visit to Ulhasnagar (the El-dorado of the sindhi community) is suggested. Ulhasnagar also need to be mentioned because it is the Mecca of 'copies' and is also called as Mumbai's USA. This is the place where cloning a whole new meaning. What is important to note that there is something for everybody in this city of extremes. A shoestring budgetis really not a deterrent if you have imagination. All you need is to go out there and dazzle them with your shopping savvy. Remember it is the ATTITUDE that counts.

Midtown Bandra is, however, an altogether different experience. The Elco Arcade on Hill Road and the stalls and boutiques on Liking Road are places that are vibrant and alive. Nothing beats window shopping on this turf. Pretty girls and handsome studs whizz past on their fancy bikes as you argue with vendors to quote a better price. Andheri is really the last stop for a serious shopper. This place has gained prominence with the emergence of posh residential complexes in the last ten years. The suburbs most famous residential area, Lokhandwala complex is a home ground to a great number of film stars theatre artists, musicians, models and upcoming bussinessmen making this place ideal for fancy schmancy boutiques, shops and restaurants.
